Description

Father Kevin Doheny has achieved international recognition for his lifelong commitment to the plight of refugees. In 1989 he established The International Refugee Trust with the aim of creating an awareness of the terrible injustices suffered by people in war-torn countries and the recognition that all of us have a part to play, no matter how small, in striving to eliminate this suffering.

No Hands But Yours documents Father Dohenys life as a missionary in Africa, beginning with the Biafran War in 1967. From 1972-79 he worked in Ethiopia, helping refugees during the time of famine and revolution. He recalls meeting Mother Teresa for the first time while in Ethiopia and tells of his great admiration for her and of the profound influence which she has had on his life. In 1979 Father Doheny moved to Zambia where he remained until 1984, working with thousands of refugees from six different African countries.

This inspiring and thought-provoking book will leave a lasting impression of an extraordinary man who has devoted almost his entire life to living and working with refugees in extremely deprived and dangerous circumstances. The International Refugee Trust has formed a network of support groups around the world, thus ensuring that Father Dohenys aim of heightening awareness of the plight of refugees is given an international platform.
